This page explains how the error-code guides on ErrorCodePedia are made: where the meanings and fixes come from, who is responsible for them, how they are re-checked, what tools we use, and what happens when we get something wrong. If a guide you are reading does not live up to what is written here, that is a defect — please tell us.

Who is responsible

ErrorCodePedia is edited and maintained by JK Hwang (황정균), based in Incheon, South Korea. The editor is not employed by, and has no commercial relationship with, any manufacturer covered on this site, and is not a licensed appliance, HVAC, or automotive technician. That is exactly why every guide leans on the manufacturer's documentation and tells you when to stop and call a professional.

Where the information comes from

• The manufacturer first.What a code means, and the manufacturer's own recommended steps, are taken from official manuals, support pages, and technical bulletins. Each guide lists the pages used under “Sources” where a public source exists.
• Cost ranges are estimates, and labelled as such.Repair costs are compiled from published parts prices and repair-cost references. They vary by region, model, and technician, which is why we always show a range and never a single “price”.
• Not used as sources: other error-code sites, forum guesses, or AI-generated answers. A code meaning is never published from them.

How a guide is built

Every code on this site is one structured record: the code, the models it applies to, the meaning, safe DIY checks, when to call a professional, a cost range, the repair-or-replace judgement, sources, and the date it was last checked. The guide you read is rendered from that record, which is why every guide has the same shape. When we say a guide was checked or corrected, it is the record that was checked or corrected.

How we use AI tools

We use AI-assisted writing tools (large language models) to draft and tidy the explanatory text around the facts, and to help extract structured details from long manuals into a record. We do not use them as a source of what a code means or how to fix it. A meaning or step enters a record only if it can be traced to a cited manufacturer or repair reference, and the editor reviews and edits drafts before publication. Nothing on this site is published automatically without a person deciding to publish it.

We disclose this because readers deserve to know how a site is made, and because it is the honest answer to how a very small team maintains this many guides across appliances, HVAC, vehicles, printers, and consoles.

Safety comes before completeness

If a fix involves gas, mains electricity, sealed refrigerant systems, high-voltage components, or a vehicle's safety systems, the guide tells you to stop and call a qualified technician — even when we know some readers would rather have the steps. We would rather publish a shorter guide than a dangerous one.

Verification and updates

• Regular re-checks, in rotation.Guides are compared against current manufacturer pages on a recurring schedule, and the links in each guide's sources are checked and replaced when a manufacturer moves or removes a page.
• We do not bump dates for show. A guide whose content has not changed keeps its existing date.
• Unverifiable means unchanged. If a manufacturer page is removed or blocked, the existing content stays rather than being replaced with a guess.

Corrections

If a fix does not match your model, or a cost range looks wrong for your area, use the contact page and include the code and model number. We re-check the source, correct the record, and the guide's last-checked date is updated.

Rankings and scores

Where we rank codes or rate how DIY-friendly a fix is, the method is published on How we rate. No manufacturer or repair service can pay to change a rating.

Independence and advertising

ErrorCodePedia is free to read and is funded by advertising. Advertisers have no access to, and no influence over, what a guide says. We have no incentive to push you toward a repair or a replacement; the repair-or-replace judgement is made from the same records described above. The details are on our About page.

What we will not do

• Publish a code meaning or fix we cannot trace to a manufacturer or repair reference.
• Copy or lightly rewrite another site's guide.
• Invent “I had this code and here is what happened” stories.
• Recommend an unsafe DIY step because it would make a guide look more complete.
• Let an advertiser change a fix, a cost range, or a rating.

Limits of this site

ErrorCodePedia is general information. Your appliance's manual and safety warnings take precedence over anything written here, and any repair you are not confident about should be done by a qualified technician.
